Issues Facing Morgan County

Financial Transparency

A recent Decatur Daily article outlined the discrepancy in opinions on funding for the Morgan County Sheriff's Department. Regardless of the which opinion you choose to accept, the fact that this discrepency exists highlights a need for improvement.

The funding of the Sheriff's Department should be transparent. The funds allocated come from the public regardeless of which account they are deposited. Whether it is allocations from the Morgan County Commission or funds collected throught the daily operations of the department, all are accountable to the citizens of Morgan County. All accounts will be audited annually and results available for public review. This is the only way a publicly funded budget should be handled. This allows for full disclosure and accountability and is no different than the budgets I currently handle or the campaign I am currently running. Both are available for public review while Campaign Finance reports for all candidates can be found here.

Additionally, with proper money management and a public dialogue true needs can be addressed that allow the department greater opportunity to both Protect and Serve the citizens of Morgan County.
